These Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites make the perfect bite sized snack for kids and adults. Simple to prepare and no baking required!
I (and my kiddos) am obsessed with these Chocolate Covered Banana Bites for a quick and easy snack. You can make a large amount at a time and store in the freezer for up to 2 months. These banana bites only require three ingredients a no baking is needed.
The bites are composed of sliced bananas with creamy peanut butter sandwiched in between then coated in melted chocolate and almonds (optional). The bites are then frozen for the perfect little snack.
Ingredient Notes
Peanut Butter: I love to use a creamy peanut butter for my banana bites, but almond butter, cashew butter or even Nutella could be swapped in. Whatever variety you use just make sure the spread is creamy and not crunchy.
Nuts: Adding nuts to the outside are completely optimal, but add a nice crunch and more flavor. My favorite nut to use it diced almonds but some other good options would be diced hazelnuts or macadamia nuts.
Chocolate: I usually use semi-sweet chocolate for my frozen banana bites, because it is my kids favorite. Other chocolates like dark chocolate or milk chocolate could easily be substituted in. Make sure to use a melting/baking chocolate and not regular chocolate chips.

The Perfect Healthy, Bite Sized Snack for Kids & Adults
Long Lasting: Stays Fresh in the Freezer for Up to 2 Months!
Instructions
- Use a sharp knife to slice each banana into even ¼ inch slices. Discard the end pieces you will not use them.
- Add 1-2 teaspoon of peanut butter to one sliced banana.
- Add another slice of banana on top of the peanut butter and gently push down to secure. Place bite on parchment paper lined cookie sheet or large plate.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all of the chocolate banana bites are sandwiched together. Next, place tray of banana bites in the freezer covered and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Once the bites are set and chilled, place melting chocolate in small microwave safe bowl.
- Heat in 30 second intervals stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melted. Mine usually take 1-2 minutes.
- One at a time, dip half of the peanut butter banana bite into the chocolate letting the excess drip off. If adding diced almonds then immediately dip the chocolate coated end into a small bowl of nuts then place back onto parchment paper lined tray. Alternatively, skip the nuts and just place the chocolate covered banana bite back on the tray.
- Repeat this process until all the bites are coated in chocolate and nuts (optional) then place back in the freezer for 10 minutes, just until the chocolate is set. Enjoy immediately or store leftovers accordingly.
Leftover Storage Instructions
Store leftover chocolate banana bites in an airtight container for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, remove from container and let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. The bites gets pretty hard when frozen, so best to let them soften up a bit.
Pro Tips
Don't Overfill: When adding the peanut butter to the inside of the sliced bananas be careful not to overfill them. You only need 1-2 teaspoon of peanut butter per banana bite. Any more and the peanut butter will smash out the side and they will not hold together as well while freezing.
Don't Skip Freezing: After filling the bites with peanut butter, it is very important to let them chill in the freezer for at least an hour. If you try and skip this step and just move in to coating in melted chocolate the peanut butter and banana bites will not hold together and slip apart.
Helpful Kitchen Tools
This cookie sheet plus lid combo is perfect for these frozen chocolate banana bites, and will prevent the banana from browning from air exposure when freezing. Alternatively, you can cover a regular cookie sheet or large plate tightly with aluminum foil or cling wrap.
FAQS
When chocolate is overheated it will seize and turn thick and lumpy. Be sure to check the chocolate often when microwaving to prevent overheating. You want to microwave in intervals, stir in between and once melted and silky remove the chocolate from microwave.
Bananas will turn brown in the freezer if they are exposed to air while freezing. Be sure to store the banana bites in an airtight container once finished to prevent browning.
Sure! I like the half chocolate look and taste, but you can cover the entire bite with chocolate by just doubling the amount of melting chocolate the recipe calls for.
