Ingredient Notes
Puff Pastry: I love the flakey texture and taste of a puff pastry and think it pairs so well with a pigs in a blanket. You can swap in a sheet of crescent rolls if you wish, but the bake time will be a bit different so be sure to monitor them.
Cheese: I recommend using a hard cheese like white cheddar or cheddar. Using a soft cheese like mozzarella or Havarti will cause the cheese to melt too much an run out the sides. Other good options include processed cheese like cream cheese or American cheese. If using regular slices of cheese I use 6 and cut each slice into 4 pieces. I have also found that the pre-sliced cracker cut cheese is the perfect size and saves on some prep time.

Leftover Storage
Store leftover pigs in a blanket in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. It is best to reheat them in the oven, so they will not get soggy.
FAQS
The best option for keeping them warm for a party is to keep them in the oven at a low heat (200 degrees F) and pull out small amounts at a time. This is a bit hands on, but ensures that they will stay warm, and the puff pastry nice and flakey.
Another option is keeping them on warm in a large crockpot. This option will leave won't keep the outside as crisp, but they will stay warm.
I do not recommend prepping ahead and storing in the fridge. The puff pastry will get too soft and will be soggy and start to fall apart because they need to be kept frozen. If you swap the puff pastry out for crescent roll dough, you can prep them up to 2 hours ahead of time and store in the fridge until ready to bake.
If serving as an appetizer these cheesy pigs in a blanket will go great with some fresh fruit, a veggie tray, chicken wings, digs and all of other classic party food. If serving as a main for a family dinner you could pair with a side salad, baked beans, French fries or veggie skewers.
Sauce Suggestions
I topped my piggies with some garlic and parmesan for an extra boost of flavor. I like to pair this version with ranch dressing. If you leave off the topping these also pair great with BBQ sauce, ketchup, burger sauce, or honey mustard.
Pro Tips
Seal the Piggies: When wrapping and sealing these cheesy pigs in a blanket it is important to really pinch he seal closed and put bake them seal side down. I also find that if I pinch the ends nearly closed the cheese stays put inside better.
Serve Warm: While puff pastry pigs in a blanket can be eaten cold, they are SO MUCH better when warm. I recommend making them right before you are ready to serve. Alternatively, you can leave them in the oven on low heat to keep them warm and crisp until ready to eat.
